Rhythms: Enjoying God Through Spiritual Disciplines
9/22/19 – 11/10/19
For six weeks, in place of the sermon, Pastor Evan is leading the church through the practice of six different spiritual disciplines and distributing a daily devotional that corresponds to each discipline, so that people can practice these disciplines on their own every day during the week. As such, the only message that will be recorded and put online is the one below. During this series, we hope you will join us in order to experience a different way of worship and being the church.
Training or Trying?
September 22, 2019
Sometimes we may hear a sermon and feel inspired to try to be better and improve, but then shortly after leaving church, someone cuts us off, we lose our temper, and there goes all the good feelings of “trying” to be more like Jesus. In truth, we can never be more like Jesus by sheer effort, by trying; instead, we must train daily, as an athlete would, to be better. Spiritual disciplines exist so that we can train to become more like Christ by growing in the nine fruits of the Spirit. In this opening message that is kicking off a series exploring spiritual disciplines, Pastor Evan talks about the difference between trying to be like Jesus and training to be like Jesus for our ministry in the world.
